Namaste,
As most of you know who follow my newsletters and my blog, I recently spent six weeks in Kathmandu, Nepal teaching English to Buddhist monks.
It was a profound experience, one I will cherish all my life. I felt every emotion, struggled with the physical discomforts (and won!) and learned so much. The monks were a treasure to teach, hiking mountains, a great way to kill oneself or get in fabulous shape, was well worth the view from the top, the Nepali people are kind and gentle, making friends with other volunteers from around the world and rescuing a starving, sick, little stray dog and bringing her home were the highlights.
From hilarious to sad and every step between, you can read My Blog's several postings (with pictures and video!) during my adventure.
I established this goal one year ago and once a goal is behind me, as I always teach, I need another to take its place. Can you guess what it is?? Of course, I am writing a book bringing you into all the fun, people, places and struggles along with how this has changed me (ie: I haven't turned the TV on since I have been home...4 weeks!), and how a little dog taught me how to recognize if a goal is REALLY the Perfect One.
In today's feature article I will tell you why following one goal with another helps you live longer. Honest, it's not hard work, its fun!

How Following One Goal With Another Helps You Live Longer!
You feel great! You reached your goal. You now know that what you were told about the joys of realizing your dream are really true. This could be addicting! And it's a good addiction. Imagine.. being addicted to realizing all your dreams. No more wishing on birthday candles, stars, and turkey wishbones. It's much more fun making them happen.
So why is that? Why is it so much more fun and satisfying to strive for and accomplish a goal than to have something handed to you?
Look at the stories of people who win large lotteries. There are more examples of sadness than joy.
- A $10 million dollar winner hanged himself 7 years later and had spent all the money.
- 18 years after winning $17 million dollars, a couple lives in squalor.
- Michigan machinist wins $1 million dollar lottery and files bankruptcy 5 years later.
- Man wins $1 million dollars, gets divorced, faces several lawsuits and is indicted for selling cocaine.
Okay, enough of that. All these stories and hundreds more are easy to find on Google.
The point is that happiness is an inside job, it's who you are not what you are, it's the ethics, boundaries, and morals with which you live your life. Your feelings of self worth and accomplishment as well as caring for others and contributing to your community bring a happiness that can't be defined.
That inside job is accomplished one day at a time as you make your life what you want it to be and not live it 'by accident'. One such way is to take ownership and control of your life by knowing what you want and knowing how to get it. Isn't it much more fun to earn the 'perfect attendance' award than watch someone else get it? Or get the promotion instead of watch a colleague get it? Or succeed in your own business rather than listen to your friend enthusiastically talk about how he did it? Or get that degree, or take that Mediterranean cruise, or purchase that car, or send your child to University, rather than just watch others do them?
The BEST reason for establishing goals is for who you become on the journeys you take to fulfill them. You become hooked on life, life is a joy, people want to be around you because you make them feel good. You have a minimum of stress and only if you allow it, your thoughts are positive, you are confident!
This is what keeps you alive, keeps you healthy and this is why establishing goals, striving for them and realizing them is key. Goals are meals feeding your reason for being here, your purpose. Once a meal is digested hunger will occur again and only another meal will satisfy it.
When one goal is accomplished, only setting your sights on another goal will feed your hunger to keep growing and living your purpose. It is the nature of the human being. Everything is in motion, we are either going forward or slipping backward, there is no such thing as standing still.
People who live their lives in this way naturally live longer and in better health.
Stop living life in the bleachers, get in the game and score those goals!
Make THAT a goal!

RECOMMENDED READING

Books are some of my closest friends. Even in my RV one overhead storage cupboard is dedicated to my library. Below are some classics and some newbies that I'm sure will become classics:
NEW! 'The Alchemist' Paulo Coelho'. An oldie but goodie modern classic worth a re-read often. Written as a fable, it teaches us the essential wisdom of listening to our hearts and following our dreams.
'The Moses Code' James Twyman. Book and DVD. Another outstanding publication from Hay House. This book and DVD had a profound impact on me!
'The Last Lecture' Randy Pausch. The legacy left by one man with an incredible soul to his wife, children and the entire world. Magnificent!
'The Pillars of the Earth' A superb piece of fiction by Ken Follett
Three Cups of Tea' Greg Mortenson & David Oliver Relin. "Thrilling proof that one ordinary person, with the right combination of character and determination really can change the world" - Tom Brokaw
'You Can Heal Your Life' DVD and book by Louise Hay
'The Secret' DVD and book by Rhonda Byrne
'Eat, Pray, Love' Elizabeth Gilbert'
'Five Wishes' Gay Hendricks
'The Four Agreements' Don Miguel Ruiz
'Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus' Dr. John Gray
'Conversations With God', Books 1,2 & 3 Neale Donald Walsch
'A New Earth' and 'The Power of Now' Eckhart Tolle
'Life on the Other Side' Sylvia Browne
